Walther/Pukeberg/Ingrid OR Ikea Special ?
« on: September 10, 2009, 09:25:54 AM »
Hi all,

Well as the title indicates I am stumped? Have googled "Solifleur" makers and browsed through the GMB links to no avail other than feeling mine is a cheaper version. All the pics on here look to be of a superior quality. The neck or hole for the flower, seems "creased/crinkled". There is also a faint "line" almost like a seam of sorts,  running through the centre/bubbles.

I had recently been reading Mr Bensons book, whereupon page 30 is a Pukeberg Solifleur- must have made a mental note because the following week at our local car boot venue it was in my mits.

Is my gut instinct improving?

All info always appreciated

Sharron

PS. I have won a prize for Collect it! Nov issue - "Star letter" - sadly its not about glass? Makes me feel a tad better after my recent run of misfortune....

No need to be so formal Sharron  :)  ....."Mr Benson"????

If you go to the 'Search' button at the top of the page and type in either Pukeberg solifeur, or Walther solifleur, you will get a number of threads discussing this. Unfortunately most of the links quoted no longer work I'm afraid.

I hope that helps, Nigel

Oh! CONGRATULATIONS on winning the prize  :)

I think "Mr Benson's" book is wrong and it's a Walther solifleur.

We had the discussion about the solifleur in Nigel's book on here before. Dirk has a labelled one and it's Walther. I wrote myself a margin note (a la Bernard  ;D ). This isn't a criticism of Nigel or his book just a correction of this

Hi,

Be that as it may Christine- but have you any ideas about mine please?

Have read all the links as Nigel suggested, prior to posting to no avail.

Thanks Sharron

hi Sharron,
I´ve not been able to find a labelled one of these so far, but the design looks
very Walther to me. Dimensions might give a hint. The confirmed Walther
designs come in three sizes. If your vase fits to one of these measures?

diameter (horizontal) 9, 12 or 15 cm
height (varies a bit) ~8.5, 11 or 14 cm

the base of the Walther solifleurs is a bit larger than e.g. on Ingridglas or
Wiesenthalhütte.

base ~ 4.5, 6 or 7.5 cm wide

Hope this helps a bit,
Dirk

Hi Dirk,

Thanks for the info- my measurements are similar???

Height 11cms exactly, widest point 11.5cms exactly and base 5.2cms.

Have you come across any with this pattern?  I prefer the ones you have as per a previous posting.

Sharron

I must admit I only pick them up, when I find my rucksack is still a bit light. You
can find them on every fleamarket around here - this may be the reason I didn't
value them too much. (I do a bit more meanwhile)
Nevertheless there has grown a small collection of Walther, Wiesenthalhütte,
Ingridglas and Georgshütte, which is although I've seen it several times lacking
your vase - and the rectangular versions of these solifleurs. I'll keep an open
eye...  :)

Hello everyone,

I am quite happy (is that the right word? ...prepared, maybe?) to put my hand up and say that I made a mistake in the book.

I think Dirk proved the point perfectly in the link to the previous discussion as linked by Christine. These are indeed Walther - note one in the long row in Dirk's photo in the other thread, isn't that yours Sharron?

Nigel

Hi all,

As always, everyones input is invaluable although sometimes we do tend to move from the subject in hand.

Nigel- our first year of collecting proper glass and we too find your book very useful.  As for Dirks picture, the one I think you are referring to is very similar, and currently one is listed on Ebay,

Dirk- would you like to add mine to your delightful collection? Not really sure I will be going down this avenue,  with all our studio glass boxed away? Only cost me a £1 at our car boot.  You are most welcome, email me.

Many thanks to all,

Sharron
