ID candlestick
« on: September 12, 2009, 08:03:11 PM »
Hello I have this lovely thick heavy candlestick.  A few air bubbles can be seen.  The candlestick picture looks clear but it is a yellowy green colour.  The place where the candlestick goes looks like a large teardrop.  Is anyone able to help ID please?

thanks
Margi

Hi all ok I hold my hands up and say I am being completely dense here.  I found our uv light last night so have been playing.  This candlestick turns a sort of blue with the light on it.  What would make it change colour like this it doesn't glow it just changes colour is this because of the colour of the uv reacting with the hint of yellowy green within the glass.  Also has anyone had any thoughts as of yet please.  My uncle is coming over at the weekend and I know he will want to know all the ins and outs of my pieces even if a few of them are pants.

neomdyium glass  changes color under UV light, although usually purple reddish in color.

Neodymium glass changes hue under different lighting conditions, from grey/blue to lilac, but it's not reactive under UV light.

Maybe your candlestick is just reflecting the purplish UV light Margi?

...and why will your Uncle demand to know the details of your glass collection???

Some glass does show as a very pale (or "watery") blue under a longwave UV light (blacklight). This may indicate the presence of lead in the mix but at a much lower percentage than "full lead crystal".

Hello again Max I did think it might be just the reflection from the uv and my uncle well let's just say he likes to know everything about everything just interest I suppose he already is asking for me to take him out and find some Lalique from a fair.  I can honestly say I have only seen one piece in the year I have been here so easier said than done and that was way out of my price bracket 120smackers.
