heavy swirl, 5 lobed pink & clear glass vase - Chribska?
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:03:32 PM »
Hi, I'd love some assistance in identifying this pretty vase.  It is 9 inches tall (22.5cms), 5 inches at the widest part (12cms) and 3 inches at the narrowest point (7cms).  There no marks on the base, just a dimpled circle which is one and a half inches in diameter (4cms). It weighs 2.7 kgs.  I have spent many months and therefore hours searching the many available sites and to date have had no joy. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. Amaya.

It has been recommended to add possible countries to the title to yield specialist interest. I hope this is OK with everyone. According to researches by GMB members such as Jindrich, Skrdlovice always had a flat base, so probably ruled out. All Chribska I have seen has had a flat base but GMB members may confirm whether this was always true. As Michelle has suggested, the style of the vase looks very like Chribska style and if the base was flat I would be tempted to suggest it. Maybe some opinions of more broad experience may have a view to contribute, since I am wondering, that companies such as (unsigned) Val St Lambert or (unsigned) Chalet is equally possible? I suggest this since European makers did borrow some deign ideas from each other and the base suggests some possible ambiguity at the moment.  I hope somebody can confirm if Chribska sometimes used this base finish because that would be a simple and effective answer, if correct. It looks a finely made heavy vase and I am sure you will identify it eventually, with help from this community,

bOBA.

Sorry Robert,
Base treatment does not accord with any of the normal Czech candidates. Not that I am any real expert, just access to my estranged husband's large research collection, both documents and glass, suggests otherwise. He has interests in Poland and may not see this.

Thanks for the reply, it is useful support about the non-Czech style base. I like Czech glass but when looking at identity it does not matter to me in advance really which country a piece is from, only that we try to find out wherever it is actually from and hopefully get there. So your help with viewing a collection of Czech bases, Chribska etc.. is good since it adds to the information mass towards identifying this vase, which is great. Thanks, it looks as though this vase is probably from another European country. The size and quality of the vase suggests a large established quality European production source, though Czechoslovakian origin is dimming in likelyhood with each post! This may mean we are getting slowly closer to where it was made,

yours

It is Chřibská OK/153/23 designed by Josef Hospodka in 1958.

Well done and thanks to you Jindrich, great to have a result and confirmation that this base has been used by Chribska and that the design is found in your records.

A nice result and a quality vase,
