Poss Whitefriars ID - Optic Rib..? & Poss Pat. nO..
« on: October 12, 2009, 12:20:59 PM »
Hi All,

Can someone confirm that my instinct is correct and that the attached vase is Whitefriars..?

It is very similar to their optic rib vases with the optic banding running horizontally and appears to be kingfisher blue.  Slightly flared with a pinched rim.

I gather from whitefriars.org, that some of the experimental optic rib vases are not cataloged, is this correct, if anyone does no of a Pat No, please advise.

Around 8 inches in height and weighs just over 1kg, ground pontil to base.

All thoughts appreciated.

Regards,
Greg

Hi I really can't tell from your photos, too much decking and reflections going on ! :o But it may be one of these on the following link.scroll down to see all of them.. However, they seemed to be made in Ruby, Blue cased and Green cased, but not Kingfisher as far as I can see. (although it is possible) Also you say 8" approx, height does matter so a more accurate measurement is always helpful

PS I have just checked and the pat. 9582 was made in Kingfisher, but it is only 6.5 inches tall.

The ribbing is diagonal and the vase is not cased in clear, so not Whitefriars.

You may be right Nic, but for the life of me I can't see ribbing, horizontal, diagonal or vertical with the decking behind it.!!!!!  Certainly it should be cased in clear if it is Whitefriars.

No from me too, why have decking and draining boards in photos anyway? it only distorts the image.

sorry all, please excuse the photo quality/ background.

Theres a very similar vase on the whitefriars website below, with diagonal ribbing, although cased in clear glass, any thoughts, measures exactly 8 inches in height....

The lack of casing pretty much dismisses Whitefriars completely for this Kingfisher-esque colour.

I wish I could suggest alternative factories but optic-ribbed vases were made by MANY companies worldwide, and are often hard to pin down without catalogues, labels or signatures.

Hi everyone.. I think I may have solved this puzzle. The vase in question is in my opinion by Reimjyre of Sweden. I have similar items in green one with a sticker that is 150mm in height and another that is almost identical but 200mm in height. The range is thought to have been designed by Monica Blatt in the 70s and also come in blue. They are lovely designs and very well made I can understand the confusion with Whitefriars with the circular polished pontil. Regards Paul.

Monica Bratt stopped working at Reijmyre in 1958.
