weird mould blown textured amber decanter - ID = Empoli Italy
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:15:14 AM »
Hi all
ive had this decanter lurking around for over 5 years now mainly packed in boxes because i dont actually like it..
Its mould blown i think in 2 parts as it has 2 seems on the corners (although there doesnt appear to be a seem on/across the base)
Its made from an amber glass, no great quality, but it has an unusual textured finish a sort of cross between bark and ribbed. The stopper is really big and hollow, the main ball is in 2 part mould then it has the 'stem' bit which is also 2 part mould but the seems dont match up so done seperatly. The stopper has an opening at the end almost has if you can use it to drink out of ?? but its quite narrow at 2cms.
The bottle stands at almost 23cms without stopper 32cms with stopper, 9cms wide. The stopper is 8cms in diameter, 13cms in length.
Any ideas on the maker, is it just a tourist piece, or even from a £1 shop
many thanks in advance
michelle

I'd guess 1970s/80s, machine-made, and Italian.
