Have seen one similar to this on Alfredo Villanueva-Collado's wonderful site, under inkwells. But is it a rare find?

Yes!

there been a big debate recently about aventurine from this period -who really made it and who does it just get attributed to.

so here is a nice aventurine by Stolzle -absolutely correct -well done

not sure its worth a fortune, but never seen one before
