3 part, square millefiori?? paperweight
« on: October 20, 2009, 01:23:17 PM »
here's another one.
This one is made up a bit like the Murano fish blocks, in 3 parts that are sandwiched together, the two outer parts are just clear glass the inner bit a bright orange "frame" which is like blobs one after another squished together  inside the frame is 9 balls not sure if they could be described as millefiori or not, one side they are flat and the other side is rounded (i havent worked out which side is top and which is bottom yet)
Quite crudely made, 6.5cms by 3cms deep
jon picked this one up because he quite liked it, and it was a bit like the murano fish blocks which he collects.. not a fan myself
any ideas on maker or age
many thanks
michelle

Hi Michelle

I know that Ragazzi & Co. are one of the main makers of these square weights but the ones I have seen have had a gold leaf ground rather than the red in your weight. The Ragazzi ones are usually around 65mm square and thinner than yours at 18 - 20mm thick. Hope this helps

Best regards

Derek

Hi Michelle

Sorry I should have mentioned that Ragazzi are from Murano.

A google search will give you many links to start your hunt.
