hi all
picked this decanter up for £1 yesterday as i saw the etched bit on the base and thought ohh whats that then.. hadnt even see the writting on the front just thought it was a pattern.
ok its made from clear glass, the base is slightly concave with a cut and semi polished pontil which i think has been heat treated, there is a number 46 in black ink? paint? and its signed in nice script made in austria
On the bottle is very very faint gold painting looks like its worn off with time of leaves and in little clusters there are yellow and orange flowers in the middle in blue white and orange flowers is the word irish which also has the old gilt gold paint forming the word IRISH.
The stopper appears to be the original one fitting snuggly without any wobble.
Once i noticed the word IRISH i thought somebody must have done it after trying to jazz up and old piece, but jon had another idea maybe it was made for Irish whisky?? as the gold paint does in fact spell out the word IRISH on its own too, is the gold new too, the paint effect has been done surprisingly quite well
The decanter stands at 24cms tall, 12cms in diameter at its widest
any ideas people??
many thanks
michelle
