Czech Glass Compote Marked CZECHO - SLOVAKIA
« on: November 01, 2009, 02:01:55 AM »
Me again - I'm splitting the two items into separate threads, I combined them in one thread originally, a no-no.

This is a 10" diameter low footed comport with light pink bowl edged in pale green, the foot is a semi translucent jadeite color. This one has a barely legible
CZECHO
SLOVAKIA
mark (printed on two lines).

The green glass fluoresces - any chance of a possible maker being identified?

Thank you

Kelli

Would it be possible to see an image of the mark please.  It is a nice piece of glass in an unusual color combination and glass style.

Thanks, Craig

Craig, I will do my best to get a shot of the mark later today. I attempted several yesterday and the mark's just SO pale and worn that none of the pics turned out. I'll give it another try, in some different lighting today.

Kralik is a strong possibility.

If you try to take the picture at an angle with a window or something in the background you can generally get the image to show because it will not reflect light the way the surface around it will....  Try looking at it from different angles and you will moe than likely see it clearly from some angle....  They can be tricky...  I agree with Warren, but would like to see the mark style first...  If you had not mentioned the mark style I may not have thought so. That is why I would like to see the mark and know the size.

Also, can you measure the size of the mark?  Thanks, Craig

I think I got it as well as possible for me - see what you think.

It measures approximately 1.2" long and .3" tall, measuring the oval.

Thanks again for all your help!

Your piece is by Loetz. The mark using the words "Czecho Slovakia" in an oval was used by the company after 1918.  I have a perfume in Ausfuhrung 134 which has the same size mark underside.....

I would estimate the piece to be from the late 20's to early 30's based on the colors.  It is a really nice piece of glass, like I said before.....    It just got a little nicer...

Craig, wish I could give you more info than "I found it at an estate sale" - but that's all I've got. I bought it, the other "knuckle" vase, and a ruby cut to clear piece that really looks like English Regency period but now I wonder if it's not Czech also. I'll start another thread on that piece so as not to confuse the issue.

The sale was run by the bank, and they are not allowed to give any personal info regarding the previous owner - not even their name, so we're kind of stuck on provenance.

Again, I'm very thrilled, and thank you so much!

Kelli
