Topic: Glass swordfish sculpture with millifiore eyes ????

Purchased this from a shop window today very heavy fish sculpture set on 8 finger/feet to the base with millifiores for eyes seems nicely made? Measures 10" tall and 12" wide and a fair old weight most likely 1.5kg. No markings to say where by whom?? Thanks for taking a look. :chky:

Well I would say Murano Sommerso, because my Uncle bought one - almost exactly the same - from Murano and the glass employs the submerged technique.  I would then go on to say it's Seguso.  Finally I would guess at 1960's.

(Then I would tend to duck as someone, rather abruptly, puts me straight).

Thanks stu that sounds like it could be good news then its something ive never seen before today or on ebay, Seguso seems one of the better glass makers is that right? :chky:

Well certainly one of the sought after ones. 

I would recommend that this fish should be moved to the Murano board for a more in-depth appraisal.

You can see similar fish for sale at this link http://www.glasshunter.com/depression%20and%20elegant%20glass.htm  (scroll down) but the the one I sold earlier this year did not achieve such a high price.  They are certainly more sought after in the USA.

The fish does look Murano. The fins and pedestal don't look like the work of any of the Seguso companies, though. The decoration would not be a normal one for them, either. We'll have to leave it on the unknown table for a while.

I thought that your fish was probably a Jordan Import Co (JI Co) Murano fish, but I wanted to check before saying it. I was able to find a couple of fish with pedestals like yours at http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/5582196. Your fish's decoration is typical of JI Co, so we can take it off the unknown table now.
