Purple Glass Bottle/Vase. Help Who Made It Please?
« on: November 06, 2009, 06:52:02 PM »
Hi All,

I got this purple bottle/vase with a job lot the other day, and I am a bit stumped as to who may have made it.

http://i37.tinypic.com/vcqfcm.jpg

It is lovely quality but the glass is very fine, very similar to the soda glass made by Whitefriars in the 1950's.

I did wonder if it is Holmegaard, and I am sure I have seen something like it somewhere, but I just can't put my finger on the memory or book  :)

Hope you can help,

Barbara

Not Holmegaard. Can't really help beyond that, although I imagine from the rim shape that it might once have had a shafted ball-shaped stopper.

Hi Nic,

Many thanks for letting me know it wasn't Holmegaard, I can stop looking in my Scandinavian glass books now. You know how it is when you get an idea, even if you really know deep down its wrong!

I don't think it had a stopper as there is no wear to the neck, but I know that doesn't always mean there wasn't a loose fitting one.

It came with a large mixed lot including Loetz, Fenton, some lovely Victorian and Art Deco glass, so I thought it might be by a "maker" rather than a more modern Polish or Chinese piece.

Many thanks
Barbara
