I've just been looking at an uncommon and early Sowerby open basket No. 1253 dating from late 1877, the first of these I've seen. It has a nice clear TM on the base. The peacock's breast is much plumper than usual, and instead of the twisted rope, it sits on a pair of bull's horns, with a further blip each side.
Am I imagining things, or is this a very early first version of their TM?
