The seagull looks like some of the animals made in China. So I bet the pwt is recent Chinese.

Hallo Anita!
I know something about chinese paperweights.
If you are looking how good the lampwork was made, you
would never presume that this is chinese.
Of course: I have a presumtion:
for me it looks like Joska Glas ( that means: German, Bodenmais),
but I am not quite sure!

The base appears slightly frosty to me. My guess would also be Chinese. The newest Chinese paperweights are quite nice.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.

I took another look at the bird. I actually think it is supposed to be an eagle. It looks like the Chinese eagle figurines.

I was thinking Bald Eagle with the white head and the feather pattern.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.

On the recent PCC Trip to Germany we went to Joska, and - very disappointingly - many of their paperweights were Chinese (but with a Joska label - I guess they polish the base or something else trivial to make it legal). I didn't see any eagles though!

Hallo Alan.
I have bought this eagle ( or what ever) in the 1970er from a shop with "Joska Glas".
In the first years, the item have had also an Joska label on the bottom.
I would like to know, if the chinese now are willing and abele to make lampework like
that eagle.
Regards
Lothar
