Tall Wine Carafe - Scandinavian, I think?
« on: December 06, 2009, 12:56:49 AM »
Hi folks!

We came across this interesting wine carafe(?) in deep olive green glass cased in crystal. It's 13.5" tall!  The "self" handle is the interesting point on this piece, and although the look is Scandinavian to me, the piece isn't marked in any way. I'd love to get some input on this. Thanks!

Kelli

Although it doesn't have to mean anything, I have never seen anything like it on Swedish ebay or in any of the Swedish antique stores I've visited for the past 2 years (and that applies to both model and color).

Best Regards
Emil

Thank you Emil. It explains why I don't find it in my Scandinavian glass references too, lol. The color just looks so Holmegaard to me, but it's just a color.

My best guess would be quite recent Polish glass made for department stores.

Thanks, Pinkspoons - guess I won't waste a lot of time on tracking down the maker then, just thought it was neat looking.

Thanks everyone!

My own rule of thumb for glass I don't recognise when I'm out and about is that if it's main positive attributes are that it's very big, very heavy, and kind of 'funky-looking', then it's almost always been made in Eastern Europe or China for department stores in the last 10-15 years.
