Hi All,

For some reason this vase always reminded me of a Walther piece and it's similar to the Regina pattern attributed to Walther at Pressglas-Pavillion.  http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/

I've looked through a couple of catalogues but can't spot it, yet.

Any and all help much appreciated.

Cheers,
Brendan :)

Hi Lustrousstone,

Hope these are more useful?

The vase is of a decent size too. It measures ~7.25" high  and 7" across the mouth (point to point). The hexagonal base is 4.5" across 'face-to-face' and about 5.25" from the point of the hexagon. (If that makes sense?)

Cheers,
Brendan

Hi Brendan,

You need to look closer to home :). Crown Crystal #286 rose bowl (sold with a centre), 1932 catalogue (at least).

Good to see some Australian glass here!

HI Cathy,

Thanks very much for your reply! It's quite a nice piece for Crown. Is it in Ken Arnolds book at all? I must have skipped right over it.

Cheers,

In Arnold's 2004 edition, it appears on page 55, but might not appear in his earlier books. There's another vase the same size, but with a more chevron pattern, which doesn't seem to be anywhere in Arnold but appears in the original catalogues. It's number #386.

Yours is undoubtedly Australian - the piece is very typical of Crown's art deco output.  However, it's possible they were influenced by a similar pattern from overseas. (Some of their most interesting pieces are not exactly original, unfortunately!)
