Topic: Uranium? drinking glass with palm stem!

Hi again

The light has been good here today in sunny Buckinghamshire, so I've been able to take photos. This is a drinking glass with a palm tree stem and I think it's uranium. It has, what I believe to be, an optic ribbed bowl - please correct me if I'm wrong. Unfortunately, I don't have a UV light - so can't be sure. Any ideas please?

Also, can anyone recommend a good UV light? Thanks!

I am fairly sure that design doesn't have a uranium stem. I'm pretty confident I've tested one.

Maplins or on-line for UV lights. I take a keyring one everywhere and have a bank note testing one at home (we don't mention the 6 ft tube the OH came home from a fleamarket with)

Lol - Well you can't go wrong with a six foot one Christine :angel: I do have a bank note one but I didn't think it was working properly - maybe that's because all the things I've thought were UV, aren't! - Thanks for the info!!!

They do have different wavelengths sometimes, which can give differing results. I suggest you take it to an antiques centre where there is a nice piece of Davidson pearline and flash your light at it. Then you'll know what reaction you're looking for and if your light is useful. Have you actually checked a banknote with it, as that would tell you if it was working?

That's a good idea Christine and no I haven't tested a bank note. I will get it out later and have a go, that's if I can find a bank note

Christine, just to let you know that I have tried the UV light on a bank note and it is working, I tried it on a different setting. A few of the pieces I though were UV - aren't. But some are! Thanks for your help!
