Molar Vase - Blue whitefriars?
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:58:48 PM »
A Molar Vase, possibly Whitefriars.  The vase measures 15cm in height, the top width 22.5cm and the base 7cm.  The vase is extremely heavy due to thickness.  There is a lot of wear to the base which would assist in determining it's probable age.  Could anyone confirm whether this is Whitefriars please?

You really need to take your photos in daylight. Try close to a window and without flash. I put my stuff on a chair covered in a white sheet (or black card for clear stuff) and facing a window (about 4 ft away). I also use a tripod. That vase looks blue and green. The Whitefriars catalogues can be found here http://whitefriars.com/catalogues/ and contain everything you are likely to find

What IS the colour of this?  Blue? Blue and Green? Some yellow?  The shape looks Whitefriars, but the colours shown in the photos do not allow for a definite attribution and as you haven't answered Chris's question about colour, it seems too soon to jump to the conclusion that it IS Whitefriars.

Also, if you suspect an item is Whitefriars, as your thread title suggests, then surely it is best to try www.whitefriars.com first? And not the other way round as you have done ( now on .com!), most especially as the photo has not improved!  Chris Cooper is a respected member of the Whitefriars site, so his comments above are valid  and there remains an open question from him re: colour  which is best answered here.

Hi Otis, the picture like others have said is everything, you can say what you like in the description but the photo must be a true reflection of the item. I and many more spend hours nightly 'trawling' ebay for items exactly like this, poor photos, incorrect description, wrong category etc. With Whitefriars especially the colours are everything 'Blue' can be rare Sky, 'Green' can be Aqua, 'Grey' can be Silver or Lilac or plain old Pewter. If Whitefriars glass is your interest then as Emmi says whitefriars.com and .org must be your first port of call and get checking those catalogues, isits and mistaken identities sections.
Sorry if this comes across as a lecture. For the record if this was listed on ebay I would having bought it hoping, when it arrived it was a cased Blue, Kingfisher? or even a cased Green Whitefriars molar vase pattern number * * * *   the chancer that I am LOL

 8)  As you can see,  my eye site is not too good.  I have appointed an assistant on this occassion to take the pics for me.   :24:  One hopes these pics meet with your satisfaction!  Thanks! GBarFoot for looking beyond the quality of the pics.  and providing a more positive lead. I know this is sometimes is difficult when the pics. are poor.
With reference to placing items on Whitefriars in order for identification.  I was under the assumption that after attempting to obtain your own info. Glassmessages was the second protocol.  Mmmmmmmmmm!  I am totally confused now :spls:,but, why do I have the feeling someone is now going to correct me on that.  :24:
With reference to your comments Chris, to some degree I accept your comments, however, one must bare in mind other factors.  Like poor camera, parkinsons, vision to include partial colour blindness, dyslexic, literacy and person who may want to be glass experts, but would like assistance in obtaining and sharing info.  These are also contributary factors why sometimes the incorrect info. has not been provided and it is imperative we as mature adults take into account when making are own judgements and comments.  Especially when one does not know the person/s.  You too, please do not take this as a lecture, but a way forward in order to enable people of all walks of life to be able to contribute and gain knowledge and understanding and not feel that they are being criticized/victimized.  You stated that you can say what you like in the description of an item.  I must point out that I did and quite rightly so, got corrected or should I say informed.  If I had difficulty in the quality of the pics posted by someone else.  I would request if it was possible to  provide better pics. Not everybody can afford a good quality camera! I very much take on board your valid comments and hopefully, likewise you, do mine
So on that note and with the improved pics. requested, hopefully someone will give me a 100%   :).  Once again, many thanks!
