funky retro cased glass lamp
« on: February 13, 2010, 01:39:49 PM »
This is cased red over white and has a ground rim.  There is a lot of wear to the base.  The red is thick and even all over and  glossy.  It looks good quality.  The white is evenly done and the finish is good.
The base is a little strange.  It has three indentations which presumably are for whereever you want to fit the cord.  However, it does look as though it could have been an enormously tall ashtray inverted  :o with a hole cut in the middle.  That said there is no wear to the rim so perhaps not  ;D .
The fittings look modern to me, but I presume those could have been changed anyway.
It is 9.5" tall
I have done some searches and I did find and all in one lamp made in China, but not the same shape.  I have pasted it for reference.
http://www.diytrade.com/china/4/products/1950742/Mouth-blown_glass_lamp_shade.html
and have found this one which looks as though it could be the same although difficult to tell from the photos.

I've also looked at the topics on here (Holmegaard /Scandinavian and Italian lamps) but none I found match the shape.
so is mine recent  or older than I think?

Any thought would be very much appreciated.
many thanks
m

Thanks so much Nic :)
That'll teach me!  Normally I do go to the Ikea site to check things out, but this just looked as though it was worn and so I didn't.  I had seen a green ish version  on ebay but my link didn't work when I posted it - the photos aren't good and it looked very pale green.  I'd like the green one as well - might have to finally make the round trip (nearest Ikea is miles from us) and have a dawdle round.
Mind you a friend bought me a beautiful light from Ikea recently (Paul Smith lookalike) and within three months the dimmer switch had gone and it wont work and I can't face the hassle of taking it back.
I have to say this lamp is well made and looks fab lit up.

thanks again
m
