The canes appear to be of the type used for Edinburgh Crystal weights, which were made on contract by Caithness Glass who contracted the cane making for a while to John Deacons!

I have not seen that design before, but perhaps somebody else may be able to add more info.

Caithness did make a weight like this one. This one may be an unfacetted second. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Willie Manson did the lampwork on this one.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.

Many thanks Roy.  Just to let you know that I failed to provide info on the base of this particular paperweight.  There is numbers inscribed in a circle that reads 1987000. Could this be the date?  Within the numbers are a smaller circle visible by a magnifying glass as the letter J encircled.  Because the details are so small unable to take a good picture.

Hi,Just a quick note to say the lampwork for the Sherlock Holmes weights was done by Myself and Rosette Fleming.

Many thanks to you all for you contributed time and effort.  I must say it is a lovely paperweight.  The shape and design certainly makes it a quality piece.
