Glass Bell - Cranberry & Gold Colored
« on: March 14, 2010, 08:10:18 AM »
Hi I bought this.  Cute little glass bell with Cranberry colored glass, and Gold.  Is it Italian?  Might it be Empoli?  I had those other BLUE ones that were, see this Post:  http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17856.0.html

If this is Empoli (or not) ?? - and what year might it be?  Thanks as always...

Thick enamel and gold has been produced mainly in Bohemia. It looks as if your bell is Bohemian - even if similar items have been produced in Italy as well. (not Empoli, though). Age is difficult to guess. I believe there has been a constant production from the 40s until today.

Based on poor decoration I believe that this one is from late Crystalex Czechoslovakia 80ties production or rather more recent from 90ties or conterporary.

Jindrich, do you know this company, now in the Slovak Republic? See the second picture for the label.

Thanks for the replies....I just thought it was pretty too.  I saw some of these before, but they looked a lot newer, and a poorer quality.  That is why I bought this one - as compared to some others I have seen like this -- this one *looked* much better....as least to me.  The other ones were a bit more plain....

Still like though.... :)

Cathy,
I have browsed briefly web, I found that this company has been estabilished in 24.6. 1991 in Kosice (East Slovakia) and this company nacrupted in 28.01.2006 But no other running links, sites, etc.

They had licence for hand painted gilded glass and crystal. This production is typical for the NovĂ˝ Bor (Haida) region in Northern Bohemia about 700 km far from Kosice, I have no information that in Kosice was any tradition of manufacturing such type of glass. Anyway, you can find plenty of small home workshops manufacturing this type of decoration in the country. I personaly hate this type of "Bohemian" glass
