Dartington Magnum Minor Decanter D545
Click any image to enlarge in new window.
This is a useful sized and elegant decanter, capacity 95cl (note error on box), roughly 1½ pints, which will comfortably take a standard bottle of wine. The box has a canny little compartment which keeps the stopper safely away from the decanter, all done without any glue or extra pieces of cardboard.
It's not in the current range, and it's presumably not designed by Frank Thrower, as it doesn't have a FT number. It's not in Thrower & Hill, 2007. Does anyone know its designer and approximate launch and production dates? Note that the
box dates from after the change of name to Dartington Crystal in 1987 (Thrower & Hill p79).
The larger but otherwise identical Magnum Major (D546) has a capacity of 160cl. There's one on the Internet carrying a blue circular label with a gold border (also not in Thrower & Hill), see
here.
