Nice little vase unknown maker?
« on: March 25, 2010, 08:33:29 PM »
This little vase came to me today it measures a decent 6.75" tall it has a nicely finished smooth base base with a great deal of wear i would rule out modern manufacture right now a good weight but no lead content i would have thought. The decoration is just a small pushed in area on either side of the vase i cant remember but ive seen similar before maybe someone does and could let me know it reminds me a bit of scandi or wedgewood glass but not sure. :pb:

I was thinking the same, but a doubt crept in because this colour came cased in clear, and I don't see any clear casing on it.

These vases usually have flat polished bases...Emmi knows more than me about WF, but I'm pretty sure this is a dented vase as the shape is right, base and rim finish right, size ok, colour looks ok and these were produced in blue, it's just missing the casing shown in the catalogue. It is'nt that unusual to find the odd variation from the catalogues, but I'll rest my case there and leave it to the WF specialists.

I am sure you are right Martyn, but I can't explain it either! LOL!

Hi thanks all for getting to the bottom of it for me it always suprises me actually how many designs whitefriars did i can see why so many collect w/f I think the small bottom pontil someone mentioned might be just an after thought or a slip with whatever they were using to polish the base! The colour is very similar to a small bowl that i put on here recently attributed to w/f with a lobed hole like a pebble in shape come to think of it. :hiclp:

While some w/f collectors are about i wonder if i could have your advise on a w/f vase im thinking of purchasing its the beak vase in midnight i think or similar the thing is its a huge one over 20" tall The guy at my local new antique centre has  :pb: just put it out from his personal collection as times are a little slow in turnover. He said its been to a museum to be certified as is and he says its book price is over 1000 pounds he has 380 pounds on it but said he will take 300 pound has anyone ever seen i think a baxter vase this big in the beak form? im preety sure he said it was 21" tall and lovely condition with a nice polished pontil etc.

Do you mean this one?
http://www.whitefriarsorg.org/memb1/cat-60/p07.jpg

They were made in Flint/ Twilight/ Ocean Green and Arctic Blue only - uncased just the solid colours, one went on ebay about a year ago for £206...........pretty scarce though. Came also in 15 inch size.

Hi yes that was quick thanks.. I think it would of been twilight he said it would be a good investment for the future as this type of w/f is still a little undervalued? compared to the moulded types like the drunken-bricklayer! Im still quite tempted though id never of guessed it was w/f a really magnificent centrepiece but i think its gonna be a little too expensive for me just now thanks for the great info..
