I added a bit more to the last post. You were faster than my slow-acting brain. But I'm sure people could have figured it out without my words.

If looking to light it internally, I would recommend investigating LED light sources, as they have come a long ways in terms of color and brightness, and they last almost forever and generate no real heat to speak of.....  Also takes next to no power to drive them....  The LED's require a "driver", or power supply, but they can be small and could be hidden in an elevated base allowing the cords to exit the body also......

Many thanks everyone for your input! ;D I have been checking out lighting specialists on google near to me and will go around and get their opinions on this piece and an other one! Internal mounting for this piece i think will go very well. However, they will need to drill a hole for the cable in this one, as the hole in the bottom is flush with the base.  The other piece will be fine as it already has the hole drilled in the side for the cable.

Yes it is a D&A piece ardy. Not many sellers out there can provide me with good SVdA glass. Which is my favourite company

The glass is scavo, so would give a wonderful effect if the bulb was mounted inside. White or clear scavo is often used for lamps because it makes light diffuse and pleasant. The top can be left open to vent the heat. The base can be very low -- maybe just a metal ring with a cut-out for the cord to exit. The only trick would be to have the inside bulb mount the right height to give the nicest effect and to keep the hot bulb away from the glass if using an incandescent bulb.

This would only work if the glass is transparent enough to let the light shine through -- easily tested with a flashlight.

That would look nice....very nice....and (maybe) even a color changing bulb.  I just found one at a store.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/831e/ either as the light at the top, or (possible) on the inside (??)

Would LED lights work in the base too.  They are small, and do not give off any heat??  Color changing inside here would give a different *mood* in the base.  Would look nice, I think...

Excellent suggestion antique. The different colours would work well especially with the dimming capacity as well.
