Topic: Purple glass riding boot

Hello,    I bought this boot the other day, its been a nightmare trying to find out about it because when I search the word 'boot' it comes up with loads of listings for 'car boot'!!!!   Its 6 inches tall, the rim is ground I think (very flat)   Its a pale purple colour, its hard getting the right light to show the colour,  the leg part is deeply rippled. any info welcome as to age and maker.   Thanks as always Cheryl

Maybe they are quite newish? Does yours feel to have any age to it?

Hi Andy, I did find the smaller one on Ebay and it does look similar. Mine probably has some age as it was so filthy and really hard to clean inside.My pictures are really coming out dark for some reason, its a very pretty shade of purple.    Cheryl

Its a popular shape made from the 19thCentury, i suppose its for flowers?
Im sure theres information out there in webworld somewhere, keep looking,
hopefully someone on here may know more.

I suppose it´s a drinking glass actually. The shape is very popular in middle continental
Europe. Likely made in one of the beer regions - Bohemia or Bavaria.
The trick is to empty it without wetting yourself. The critical point is, when you´ve emptied
it half-way and the air gets into the tip of the boot. This will - unless you know the knack -
produce a little wave, which will slop into the corners of your mouth and run down your
chin. Increasingly more difficult the later the evening and the amount you´ve drunk
already...  
One of the smaller examples, they also come in large sizes. Try ´Trinkstiefel´ or ´Glasstiefel´
on ebay.de. I´m sure something similar will show up.

dirk - may I guess that the answer is to have the front of the boot pointing downwards as you consume??

Yep, quite simple, isn´t it? Nevertheless almost everyone will do it with the front
pointing away. Of course that also is the way to put it down in front of someone,
who doesn´t know...  
Second (for the advanced) possibility is to give it a slight turn while drinking, so
the air will get into the front as a slim stream not as a bubble. Nice to see as
people are getting boss-eyed, while looking for the right moment. This would also
be the more reputable way to drink; almost a code.

Thank you so much for your replies. I have now searched both 'trinkstiefel' and 'glasstiefel' and have found quite a few drinking boots. I'm waiting for my husband to come home to see if he will tip drink all over himself      and I thought it was only us English that did odd things!!!!    Cheryl
