Large amethyst lidded compote - Italian????

Hi can anyone tell me where this might be from, I have been searching all day but come up with nothing  :huh:

It is 10" high...including the lid.

Thank you Anne...I knew I had seen something similar and always had Empoli on my mind. I picked it up this morning in a charity shop for £1.00  :)
