Gozo Perfume bottle
« on: April 09, 2010, 01:06:46 PM »
This represents my largest (value) purchase ever in the world of contemporary glass, an exorbitant £15.00! - I know I'm a cheapskate. Anyhow, I have a couple of questions about it that I would like to ask if I may:

The stopper seems to have a monogram/squiggly mark etched/scratched into it. Is this by design? Or is this just likely to be some random - although arty - general damage?

My second question is. Does anyone know the age of this?

Can't help on the stopper - hard to see clearly with all the reflections in photo.  Take a look at the 2002 catalogue, may be Stardust or Gold Red, again it's hard to tell from the photo as the reflections are so strong.

Thanks Suzy,

I don't think it's any of those to be honest. I was lead to believe that this was from the 70's/80's although I have my doubts about that, hence the question.

I will add a better picture in a while but here is one of the stopper:

Gozo was co-founded in 1989 as a retirement project for Michael Harris, so your piece can only date from then at the very earliest.

Well I think my doubts were justified then!

Here is a picture without the reflections - taking pics of glass can be challenging sometimes!

I've only seen a two of these more painterly done pieces, but not had any clues as to the date. Ron Wheeler at Artius Glass might have more of an idea though - worth asking him, if it's important to you to know.  The mark on the stopper doesn't look deliberate enough to be a monogram, etc but it's in an odd place to be an accidental mark, odd.  :-\
