TWISTED TWO COLOURED GLOBE SHAPED LARGE VASE - Skrdlovice?
« on: April 19, 2010, 12:29:22 PM »
Just picked up this really nice chunky vase which is in a green and amber swirl.  It is quite heavy and measures approx. 6" all ways.  It has a ground pontil and I have attached some photos to see if anyone can confirm if this is a Murano piece.    I would describe it as a twisted ribbed design but I am not sure if this is right.  Thanks for any help.  The green and amber are quite swirled in lines.

Hi Kerry, this one looks a bit Bohemian, maybe by Chribska, but that's just a stab in the dark really, it's not a shape I recognise.

Hi, thanks for the responses.   It definitely gives me something to think about.  I am pleased to receive any opinions as I know very little about glass and it is hard to identify pieces without a makers mark.  Hopefully I will improve in time.  Thanks again.   Kerry. :)

Just found a thread about a Chribska vase here with similar vertical ribbing, and the pattern of the colours isn't too different.  Of course the shape is nothing like and the base looks different so who knows, I could be barking up the wrong tree!  ;)

Hi Kerry,

I can't be of any help, but your lobed vase is a beauty.  I've also got a heavy 12-lobed green vase with some similarities to the one pictured above, but it is unidentified as of yet: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,32614.0.html

Maybe some of the suggestions given to me can help you.

All the best!

Hi Anik, you have lots of answers to your query which are really interesting to read.   Thanks for leading me to that.  Your vase is very similar and also very beautiful.   Good luck in your search for finding out more about it.  Thanks also Wayne for the link, there are definitely similarities there.    Best wishes, Kerry.

Hi John, thanks for the link.   I think this is a great match, the base is just the same and the inside swirling matches up.  So more like Czech than Italian by the looks of it.   Thanks for responding, you were super helpful.    :kissy:

Although not a definitive marker, the fact that the piece appears to have a concave pontil would initially have me looking somewhere other than Italy....  I own quite a few pieces of Italian glass, and although not unheard of, none of my pieces have pontil marks. All have flat ground and polished bases.
