Brown white layered vase, any idea?
« on: April 23, 2010, 06:17:33 AM »
Found this in a charity shop, fairly simple model. I'm trying to find out whether it's a bit older, or simply some modern copy, and where it could originate from.

It's fairly light, at 1.1 kilo. It's 30 cm high, 9.5 cm diameter at the rim, 12 cm diameter at it's widest point, and 7.5 cm diameter at the base. The chocolate brown colour is a bit lighter at the widest point, and slowly becomes darker towards the base. The inner white layer covers the rim.

Am I right that the base has an unpolished pontil mark (sorry, still trying to learn about all of this)? And there are some wear scratches at the base, but not overly. Then again, the glass looks like it's not particularly prone to scratching, and the colour isn't highly fashionable at the moment, so it might still be older than it looks...

I know it looks fairly generic, so I don't expect much, but it's always nice if someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Astrid

Given the thickness of the white layer, I would say it's not that modern and not Chinese

Thanks, I'm still far too inexperienced to tell the difference. Your help is really appreciated.
