Another "I know nothing" item from the auction joblot.

The post title says most of it - glass basket in iridescent uranium glass with applied twisted handle. There's an opaque trail running around the top rim and a little into the basket, although this is a little uneven in places. Where the handle attaches to the body is topped off with crude berry prunts.

Finished to the base with a polished pontil.

Looking in Truitts bohemian glass,1880-1940,the firm Hosch produced a number of glass baskets some with what appear to be barley twist handles and a few with similar bases, page 75 if you've got the book,

Those are Kralik baskets, according to the caption. Bohemian seems more likely than English because of the iridescence.

Iridescent, opalescent or a bit both? Is that 'fire'?

Thanks for the comments.

There's no opalescence - it's just the glare of the iridescent finish. The glass itself, as far as I can tell, is just green where it's thickest and fades to near-clear where it's thinnest.

The images are fairly accurately representative of the actual piece - but I just snapped another in unadulterated daylight (it looks arty-farty, but it is just perched atop the seat of my exercise bike):

You couldn't do ordinary if you tried, could you?  :kissy: I can see the trailing better, but what I can't see is the iridescence

I'm having trouble trying to convey it well in photos. It's a subtle effect (unless you get greasy fingerprints on it - then it goes petrol-like) - it is mostly just a minor shift between green and reddish-yellow when you catch it at the right angle. I think the first and second pictures convey this a little. The surface also has a slight mirror-like quality to it.

Perhaps I'm mixing my terms up here? I don't know if there's a specific name for subtle two-toned mirror-ish finishes...  ;D

Personally, the bottom seems a bit heavy for Bohemian to me....
