Seriously though, the lower part is very much in the style of the older Bohemian / German "flower" weights, so maybe a more nodern interpretation using a piece of The Wall could be what it is.

On the other hand, those "Bohemian / Silesian" folk (of around 1900 to 1930) did like to encase ceramic animals, busts and so forth in weights. So maybe it's a simplified one of those, using just a smaller piece of ceramic as an intriguing design concept suggestive of the form and style much loved of the time but leaving the actual identity to the imagination and artistic interpretaion of the viewer?????

There was a question on QI (a jokey TV quiz programme with Steven Fry) the other night, where the teams were asked, "What are most Chinese houses made from?"  The answer was, "The Great Wall of China"!   :shock:

Apparently, the wall is gradually disappearing, as the locals are taking it apart and using it as building materials!   :shock:  :roll:

So they could well be putting bits of it in paperweights as well   :lol:

Something about this paperweight looks familiar.  I don't think I saw it at Ivo's - that was my first thought.  Haven't I seen something similar on here about 3/4 months ago?

Did Adam Aaronson have something along these lines?  It could be only the base cylinder of colour that's jogging my memory...whatever it was, I don't think it was ever identified and maybe that base block of colour is very common.   :?:  I have an idea it was quite a simple paperweight also.

Thought I'd add this as you never know what might help!  :D
