I think mine is Obsidian,
I would have thought yours, Rose looks like glass, but could be Quartz , which is also glass anyway of course.
Your is Obsidian Andy....
Where Obsidian is a volcanic glass formed as a result of heat, Quartz is actually a crystal. Although both contain large amounts of silica, the cooling process and internal structure differentiate their categories. By not containing a crystalline structure, Obsidian is classified as a glass and Quartz as a mineral.
There is a form of glass that is actually produced by melting quartz crystals. It has uses in semiconductors, high quality optics, lab equipment, high quality mirror substrates etc...
The large green pieces such as this that look like glass, are in actuality most likely glass. Green Quartz in a transparent inclusion free form is actually valued as a semi-precious stone and depending on clarity and cut can vary in price in the $150-$1100 price range for a nice one around 10 cts. Most green quartz is opaque or translucent, and not clear. I just thought we needed to be clear here, that this piece is in all probability, light green glass and not green quartz.....
