Galliano Ferro sommerso vase, do you think its Uranium ?
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:04:56 PM »
Hi all
I picked this up a couple of days back and really like it so thought i would post a couple of pics on here, plus it is a stickered example so may be handy for future reference.
Obviously it IS Uranium cased and a very bright glow at that, can be seen glowing under normal not so bright daylight.
The vase has a red core (not bright red more raspberry red) cased in bright  yellow/green uranium with 3 lobes. Flat polished base with bevelled edge. Flat well polished rim, the lobes are rounded off at the rim
It stands at 26cms tall, at its widest around 6.5cms.
The sticker is silver paper with black writting which reads
FORNASA DE MVRAN A L 'INSECNA DEL MORETO - MADE IN ITALY -
Around a black head with G F either side of the head.
Similar pieces can be seen in Leslie Pina's Italian Glass Century 20 on page 61.
all the best
michelle

haha thought you might like it Christine, it does look a bit orange in the picture i hadnt noticed that before but certainly not orange in real life, kinda musty red if that makes sense.
I get real excited when stuff glows that much, its great fun, later tonight i might treat myself to a run round the house with the lights out and the UV light in my hands...hunt the Uranium.. oh the fun we have in our house  :24:.
Gorgeous piece, i got it at a car boot on sat, along with a load of other stuff off a lady who set up opersite to us, I'm sure i will be popping a couple of the other pieces on at some point as im struggling to ID one in particular, although got a sneaky feeling its chinese.
cheers
michelle

very nice one, Michelle  :hiclp:

'INSEGNA DEL MORETO' is 'Trade Mark of the Black-Haired'  ;)

Just thought I would share this as information here has solved a mystery of mine. Pictures below of a goose that I have. He is a sizeable bird at 20 1/4ins long beak to tail. I'm pretty confident that this is the same maker as the vase featured here so thanks very much  :)
