Bohemian ?
« on: May 19, 2010, 06:55:03 PM »
The last one I promise...!!
Is this perhaps from the Czech stable. Has stunning colors that flow through the vase...amber/grre/purple.
The base is flat polished.
Many thanks
Norman

The colours look like the 'Rhapsody' range by Zemek,Mstisov glassworks.

Norman  -  looks like Keith is on the right track.    Unfortunately, your choice of scarlet back drop does hinder the glass colours somewhat, and not sure that I can make out the grey that you mention, although if that is what you are seeing then wouldn't doubt you.    Just for interests sake, can quote from Mark Hill's book which mentions that Zemek's earlier work is characterized by prunts/projections which carried the colour  -  as opposed to his later designs which apparently had the colour placed more in straps or stripes down the glass, and which lacked the prunts.   This Rhapsody range was massively popular, apparently.   Anyway, good piece.

This gives me the chance to show and tell on a piece I picked up today in a mixed lot for £8 - the rest of the bits were junk.

Doesn't look like a Rhapsody piece to me.

Looks more like a piece of Novy Bor, especially with the gentle twist to the base: http://picasaweb.google.de/exat53/NovyBor#
Lots of variations on the theme at the bottom of the page.

John

sorry Norman - led you astray there, must be a little more careful, my apologies :-[    However, Suzy's piece is Rhapsody, and is shown as the top right example on page 66 of Mark Hill's book.
