What glows pink under UV?
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:15:36 PM »
I have a lovely vintage necklace, made of yellow and white seed beads in a twist.  Tonight I accidentally shone a UV light on it, and the yellow beads all turned bright pink in the light.  I haven't seen this particular effect before, what would do that?

Might possibly be something to do with Cadmium sulphide - try here ......http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,95.0.html
this came courtesy of Anne (Mod.) about two years back.  :)

That is interesting, thanks.

Is it an indication of age to have beads containing cadmium sulphide or do modern producers still use it?  The necklace looks as though it has some age with the type of clasp used but it is in very good clean condition so I am not certain how old it is.

sorry, can't help there  -  I only wear my beads when I'm being Susan on Sundays - however, feel sure an expert of the fairer sex will be able to assist.
