IS THIS A MURANO FACETED SOMMERSO VASE?
« on: June 03, 2010, 04:40:34 PM »
Hi,

This is a vase I will be placing on Ebay over the next couple of days and I am pretty sure it's Murano but any ideas which factory, age etc. Of course I could be completely wrong.

Obviously it is double cased with green and yellow but the facets are also star cut.

It is a little over 6" high (16cm).

Regards
Rosie

I'm not sure if the vase is Mandruzzato -- it does look like theirs with cut decoration added. Mandruzzato is definitely on Murano.

I have a similarly cut Sommerso vase.  I have always believed it to be by Mandruzzato, although I haven't seen other cut examples.  I'll be very interested to see if you can find out if yours is, as I reckon mine is definitely 'related'.

And the address for Mandruzzato is Fondamenta Navagero 54b, Murano.

Might it then be time to move this thread to the Murano board?  I would be interested to see if Alex (Art of Venice) is able to tell if these vases might be the work of Alessandro Mandruzzato, who I believe is doing mainly cut and etched work these days.

Hi all.....................Another possibility is Decorazione Artigiana Verto besides Mandruzzato! They both did vases in ground (or cut) three  layered "vetro sommerso" in the 80's. But for now I am in Anita's camp!.....................Jerry

Hi Leni,
mhh... I'm not so familiar with that style of vases due to I have never traded with that style of items.
I know Mandruzzato, but there are other small furnaces making them. Also these are very popular items now as many years ago and for sure there were several small producers in the past.
Often there are coldworkers making them on a base of commercial vessels made by other people.
Normally they are not signed and it makes the game even more difficult.
So my first answer would be Mandruzzato, but it just the easier answer...

See you in Venice soon!

Sincerely

Alex
