Topic: Bagley Equinox or Crown Crystal or someone else in plum-coloured glass

I spotted this on eBay just now and was intrigued by this colour as it's not one I've seen before... can anyone offer any thoughts on whether or not it's Bagley, or is it the Crown Crystal similar piece, or has this been made by someone else entirely? Anne — definitely Bagley 3061* Equinox, usually comes with matching block and plinth, and the set looks rather splendid.   I've had two or three such sets through my hands, all with unfrosted block and plinth, and all the smallest of the three sizes.    I've a plinth waiting for a bowl and block.   I call the colour amethyst, but this might not be what Bagley called it.

3061* — I can't find Bowey & Parsons at present, so please would someone fill in the missing letter.   I know it's 3061C for the cupped version.

Anne — Further thoughts.

There is one further Bagley piece, possibly one of the small posy vases like Ocean, that regularly turns up in this purple / amethyst colour.   Can anyone provide enlightenment?

Note that this should be expected.   Single manufacturer specialist historians have a tendency to invent rules for their chosen victims, which might work as general guidelines but fail in less usual circumstances.   Baker & Crowe show us that the Marks & Spencer buyer sought exclusivity, and I have no doubt that other buyers did likewise.   So this very limited use of amethyst / purple could have been an exclusive or a trial which worked, and there are probably other explanations.

Little Queen's choice bowls turn up in unfrosted amethyst too. I've had two: one in a stand.

Yes, not Crown. What we believe to be the Crown versions have only turned up in uranium green, cupped, *wonky* and in Australia.

Thanks all, what an interesting topic. I had no idea that Bagley produced this colour — it's a sort of sorbet shade! Bernard, your reminder about "Single manufacturer specialist historians" is timely, given the various oddities I've been seeing around. (Another example being Cheryl's purple blancmange bowl here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,34202.0.html)  I'll keep my eyes open now for these odd colours. Thanks again.

Hi Guys I have a Bagley Equinox ina bright purple colour found in here in NZ in 2005 I was not sure at the time that it was Bagley but put it away must research that colour (round to it !!) Here are some photos.

I would have to say that that one doesn't look like Bagley Amethyst, so perhaps not Bagley.
