Unusual Hand Blown Periwinkle Blue Vase / Polished Base
« on: July 08, 2010, 02:47:45 PM »
Hello.  I'm not really sure how to accurately describe the surface and design of this vase.  So, if you have any suggestions for the subject line let me know for future reference.  i'm not sure what country this vase originates from.  It stands 9" inches tall and 3.5" inches wide.  It's hard to see, but the base is polished and shiny.  The spots where the "globular" parts are polished and rest on the surface show some wear.  Any help identifying this piece would be greatly appreciated.  I love the color.  This is a keeper.

Maybe a mod. could put the words "curtain" or "drapery" in the subject line?

If you put 'Skrdlovice' into a search on the GMB you'll find some pieces made by a similar process. The molten glass is pushed by an instrument to create the shape and then often modified by a blast of compressed air. However, every Skrdlovice piece I've seen has the pushed shapes the other way round, i.e. yours is upside down. Czech factories other than Skrdlovice made similar glass, as did Magnor in Norway and Aseda in Sweden. You'd be better to put Czech into the title and hope that Jindrich takes a look or bOBA get backs from fishing.

It's a nice piece and a very interesting puzzle.

Jindrich:

Sorry if I seemed to be suggesting that it was Skrdlovice.  I thought it was based on the Skrdlovice idea, but was made by somebody else. I wasn't suggesting putting 'Skrdlovice' in the title but using the "search' function to locate pieces that illustrated the process.

Have you seen this upside version anywhere, Jindrich?

No, David, I have not seen it here. Possibly it is not Czech.

A very interesting piece, that I do not recognise.... Nice hot worked hand made vase. Unusual finish to the base. Sometimes these elegant, well made pieces are the best ones to watch as research develops. Dorian is enjoying the vase whoever made it!! Fair play, a nice piece of glass,

Robert (bOBA)

Thank you for your replies.  I wasn't sure if it is a Czech piece or not.  I thought that the color and quality of the glass would seem rather specific to a region or company.  Perhaps it's Italian?

I'd be watching out more for similar Scandinavian pieces that might still have the label on. Magnor or Aseda would be my two top bets.
