is this vase satin air trap?
« on: August 01, 2010, 10:08:32 PM »
I have googled until I am blue in the face on this one and I've ended up totally confused  :spls:.
At first I thought it might have been cut down, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't.  I've also just assumed this was Bohemian (probably because of the shape more than anything as it looks similar to a little tango vase I have and sits with my rose bowls) but actually having investigated further I now haven't a clue.  It seems it could be Bohemian, UK or US?  and I can't work out the pattern because it has two, one spotty on the main body and the other diamond shapes going up the neck to the rim.  It was incredibly difficult to photograph so please excuse those. Whilst it appears to be shiny in parts, it isn't at all it's definitely satin with the spots being matt.  It is very very smooth, so much so that I kept thinking I was going to drop it whilst photographing it.
Any help much appreciated and many thanks

thanks Christine -  I have found  attributions in the same colour and also this, see link, which says they are Mount Washington Raindrop, so possibly mine is as well.

They too have the spotty body and then it becomes a diamond pattern it seems as it gets narrower at the neck

I'm not sure how much Mount Washington is found in the UK. I might go for Bohemia

I was going through the photos in the fab Czech glass site posted and came across this link
http://www.miloslavbecka.cz/skla/index.php?page=album&photo=098.JPG&position=98
I think google translate says that these in the link are Riedel glass.  I was wondering if I'd interpreted that correctly and if so, then perhaps my vase could be Riedel?  see the pink one 4th from right for reference.

M, I'd think your supposition re translation is correct: Josef Riedel, Nový svět, Czechoslovakia.

There are several easily correctable and identifiable mistakes in his inventory. I have contacted the seller directly several times with links to information confirming his mistakes, and he chooses to not correct anything. Included in the mistakes are a 1920's-30's Kralik Milifiori piece with a spurious propeller mark which he has classified as Victorian and says is either Webb or Harrach, but is kind enough to let the buyer be the judge......  I have provided him with undeniable confirmation of Kralik production of the piece.  I would take any ID on the site as questionable at best, unless you have proof that it is what he states it is.....
