Unknown amber vase nice and heavy, help please
« on: August 02, 2010, 10:01:35 PM »
Hi, I bought this vase at the weekend and have no idea what, when or where it has come from. It has a pontil to the base ( that has a matt look to it and not perfectly round ) It stands 8.5" tall and is a nice amber colour, very similar to an old whitefriars bowl I have ( could it be whitefriars? ) I have had a google at whitefriars but with no luck, please help, cheers, David

Hi David, pretty certain it's not Whitefriars. A link to the catalogues to have a look, it's not a pattern I recognise also the colour looks too dark, a bit vague but Scandinavian probably.

I suspect it is very modern Asian - typical of designer type vases.  Most good Scandinavian glass will have a properly polished pontil and in many cases makers marks so I suspect this was a "cheapie" despite the glass thickness.
