silver rimmed? candlesticks
« on: August 08, 2010, 06:48:52 PM »
Good evening all these candlesticks (although I think they would make good bud vases) were purchased a few weeks ago.  They are hallmarked with the anchor, lion etc which I know means Birmingham and London but what does the letter M stand for right at the beginning and there is also a letter X, unfortunately next to the M it is rubbed but ends in S so I thought EPNS but would it then have the lion and anchor - confused.  Also apart from the year does anyone recognise the pattern please to be able to give them a maker.
Many thanks

The anchor is just for B'ham (leopards head for London) if I read it right the date is 1897,the M will be the silver smith,as you know, but doesn't help with whoever made the glass,
Keith.(will see if I can find a match for the makers mark)

They'll be bud or spill vases, not candlesticks; there's nowhere to catch the wax

Thanks Keith really appreciate that.  Christine I said vases to the lady who sold me them but she was rather adamant that they were candlesticks - some people eh.
Appreciate the help.

They'll be the people who have little dishes on stands, oops I mean candlesticks, with their dressing table sets.
