Topic: Webb Corbett Deco-style cut bowl 1930 - 1947

I wonder if anyone could tell me if it's possible to identify the pattern and / or designer of this Deco-style oval bowl.  It's marked on the base with the acid etched 'Webb Corbett made in England' mark which was used between 1930 and 1947.  It's 5 inches (12.5cm) high and 5.75 inches (13.5cm) wide by 4 inches (10cm) across.

Leni, I'm sorry I can't help with the information you're looking for, but I just wanted to say that this bowl is absolutely beautiful!  Looks like I'll have to start collecting Webb Corbett pieces now

Never seen anything like it, Leni. It's definitely "Art Cut", and I'd imagine, a rare and incredibly desirable piece, it's so unusual, even for art cut stuff.

Nothing to add but recently I have become interested in modernist cut pieces like this.  Very beautiful!

In fact, Nigel has spoken to me about it, and he is of the opinion (and I do value his opinion most highly!) that it is a biscuit jar which has lost its lid      That seems to me a very reasonable assumption, and explains the strange oval shape!   

I like it anyway, and shall have fun trying to find out more about it.  Thanks very much, all  :kissy:

Is there any age-related wear which suggests it should have a lid? It would be a real shame if it's lost, but aesthetically, it stands very well on it's own as a vase.

It's possibly the most unusal and lovely bit of "Art cut" I've seen. It's far too good for biscuits - hand made chocolates, I could understand.
