Possibly the biggest Carnival glass in the world!?
« on: August 21, 2010, 11:25:29 AM »
My friend and I found this yesterday...it's enormous!  At least 14" high...I wondered where it came from?  Czech possibly - that's only a hunch from the way the rim is finished...

Here's some photos...enjoy the big lump (that's the glass, not me)   ;)

I thought all carnival was machine made - this is more a blown piece with marigold iridescence so I doubt if it qualifies. But yes - apart from those monstrous punch sets that weigh 15 kilos and take up a whole kitchen cabinet, this must be the largest one of its kind.  :rah:

 :D

You could put an albino goldfish in it, disguising it as a gold one.

Not quite the biggest, but certainly a fantastic lump of glass :)

Sue,

Best goldfish joke (albino) I've heard today. Your mind is a truly wondrous excursion out of this petty universe.

Yep, it's a biggy!  Not sure where I'd put it though...and I think it was £62 so that's a bit rich for poor me, whether it saves the embarrasement of an albino goldfish or not!  :24: :24:

I'm surprised at Ivo's remark about Carnival being "machine made"!!! Carnival from the early years (1907 through the 1920s) is virtually always made in the hand plants, mostly by pressing but with lots of hand finishing techniques. No semi-automatic or automatic machines involved.

"machine made" as in "pressed, not free blown" - I thought that would be obvious from the context.
