Or I assume it's a bowl of some kind? It's a bit big and a lot heavy for a drinking glass - even a greedy person's drinking glass.

I bought it in a lot of definitely Holmegaard pieces (all recognisable, signed or labelled) - and this is too, allegedly. But it's unsigned and I've never seen one before. It has a polished circular inverted pontil, which although not unknown on Holmegaard, isn't particularly common. It also has a nice tactile rounded rim. It's 14cm tall and weighs in at a little over 880g.

Any ideas? I've seen some JE Bang pieces from the 1930's that are not dissimilar in basic form/style, but this feels more 1950's-60's.

Quick follow-up:

I had a rummage around, and I only have three pieces of Holmegaard with an inverted pontil; two are 1930's J.E. Bang... and the third is a miniature blue-glass cream jug from the early-mid 1950's - designer unknown.

T'is food for thought, though it doesn't really help pin it down any.

i know it is Holmegaard, but I cannot add a maker or a time frame for certain. I would think Per Lütken around 1960 - but no paper proof.

Thanks for the Holmegaard confirmation, Ivo.   I thought that most all Holmegaard (some tableware aside) around the 1950's - to - mid-1970's was signed? Unless this is a greedy person's wine glass after all!

Also, if anyone has any ideas about the little tiny jug, it would be appreciated!

I was just taking a group photograph of the lot I bought to show a friend, and I noticed that the kluk kluk decanter also has an inverted pontil. I have a few of these (and they all have inverted pontils), but only two are definitely by Holmegaard.

I have a clear glass Holmegaard kluk-kluk as well (complete with label) and that  has an inverted pontil. Hope this helps.

It's a shame the one I bought recently only has its cork stopper - I much prefer the glass ones.   But it barely cost me any money, so beggars can't be choosers.

I've never seen one for sale with a cork stopper - all have been glass in my "neck of the woods" so to speak. Incidentally, mine cost my mother (who bought it for me) a whole £1.

Well from what I understand, Holmegaard produced a lot of the kluk kluks for alcohol manufacturers and you would purchase the decanter full of whiskey or cognac or somesuch booze and it would be stoppered by a cork, but also have the glass stopper that we all know and love in the box that the decanter came in, for use when you'd disposed of the cork stopper. These very occasionally come onto eBay still with box, booze, and the two stoppers - but usually in America (evil postage when the decanter's still full) and always when I'm a little indisposed in the finance department!  :oops:

There were also kluk kluks with cork stoppers that had metal tops with a kind of ring-pull. My parents were recently in Spain and found one at a flea market for 6 €, but didn't buy it for me because they hadn't seen one with that stopper before and assumed it wasn't original!  :roll:

I think I would have even bought it without the stopper. Well, after a bit of haggling!
