For fun: what is this uranium glass thingy for?
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:52:02 PM »
I visited Broadfield House Glass Museum on Thursday, while I was there I discovered what this little 'vase' was designed for. A couple of examples have been on the message board before (I have since discovered) so no doubt this won't keep people guessing for long.

This example is made with Uranium glass and stands 8cm (a little over three inches) tall, the rim is about 2.5cm (one inch) in diameter. The rim is ground and polished and there is some waterstaining on the inside. Faint vertical optic ribbing is also apparent but hard to see in my photos.

Sorry, no prizes for correct answers. :'(

I think I know what it is as I've just bought one (with Patricia's help) at the Cambridge Glass Fair.  Nice in uranium though, mine's just plain glass.  I'll keep schtum.  :D

Nice. Last one I tried to buy on ebay I was overbid on - and it wasn't even described properly. One day I'll find one. Can I ask how much you paid?

It is an acorn vase Anne. :hiclp: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,9298.0.html

I don't think this was a hard enough puzzle, especially when the first three responses (four really) were "I know what it is". ;D I will have to try harder!
