Here's another recent buy, a very heavy art deco style wild boar figure. I believe it's lead crystal given the weight and refractive quality of the glass. The base is solid and polished smooth. I'm fairly certain given the design, material and base finish that it's a Georges Chevalier design for Baccarat, however, the only book I have which includes Chevalier's work is Cappa (1998) which only shows a couple of pieces and not this model.

It appears to be unmarked and measures approx. 8 1/4 inches (21 cm) long by 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm) high.

Thanks,

Steven :)

A couple more pics including a base shot. The photo is a little blurry, but the base is simply ground and polished smooth.

ask Baccarat if they ever made unmarked items. I think I know the answer...

Could this possibly be a vintage car bonnet mascot, many very fine companies produced those, French, Bohemian etc... The plain base suggested to me it may be and the running shape of the beast!

I was surprised it was unmarked too, however, the Chevalier animals shown in Cappa are also unmarked. I've just had a look on replacements & have found the model here: http://www.replacements.com/webquote/CO_BACMISFCRY_s3.htm (Boar -Boxed, style no. 764417) So it would definitely appear to be Baccarat :)

Must be a relief that it is not a crashing boar car mascot.   :pb:

Hi

Its is Baccarat

It is Chevalier

they are always unsigned before 1937

It was designed 1925 along with the gazelles (single and double versions), elephants (shown in Cappa), tiger/wolf -if memory serves me right even a rhino and a greyhound etc etc. They were decorations made to go round the edges of the room for the Paris Exhibition Baccarat pavilion. As Explained in one of the Baccarat books

This one is quite rare

PS I'm off line for a week so apologies if I'm silent

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for the extra info on this piece. I had hoped it was a Chevalier design so it's great to have it confirmed.

All the best,
Steven
