my entire German vocabulary (translated into english) consists of;
"1,2,3,4,5,11, snowflakes, puddles."  :-[

so how do you say "puddles" in German?

do you mean the very little lakes?.... after a rain?
we call'em pfuetzen (actually pfützen)
the pronouncation is more near to pfitzen than to pfutzen
I thought every english speaker knows:
 :o" zack zack
and kindergarten, rucksack...

or do you mean pudel? the huge amount of hairs with a little bit dog inside?

My German friend Uwe told me it is "Wasserlaken" - I didn't think he was having me on.... snowflakes is "Schnaeflocken", isn't it?
It all sounded very reasonable to me at the time.

About your vase! I don't think it's Mdina, although they did do bluey/greeny trailing similar to this over red glass, the red glass itself is cloudy-streaky in clear, while your vase seems to be a solid, clear red.
It is also not a Mdina shape - but never say never - strange shapes do turn up occassionally. Mdina exported heavily to Germany right from the early days, although red with blue-green trailing is from the late '70s onward. Some folk describe the red as orange and the blue as green.

dear chopin-liszt
snowflakes = schneeflocken pronounced schnaeflocken...
I think uwe said wasserlache which is a little oldfashioned, not used that often, but means puddle as well...
(actually it means puddle of water...seems a little tautologic to me)
and yes my dear it's solid clear ruby-red and a light green (more mouthwash-green than bottle-green)
it's not uranium glass even it looks and I thought/hoped at first time...
anyway you're allways welcome and if you ever want to buy something at ebay in german language this might be useful words:
knabser = nibbled
flohbiss/flohbisse/ flohbiß = fleabite(s)
kratzer = scratches
abplatzer = chip
sprung = crack
abplatzer = normally a bigger flake/chip
ablagerungen im inneren = calcareous or metaloxid inside (might not be removable)

We didn't have pen and paper handy for getting the spelling correct on our romantic, moonlit evening walk, in the mountains of Austria, way back in the early '70s!
I have never had any trouble buying things from Germany from ebay - I can normally make myself understood using babelfish to translate - I just make my "english" very clear to start off with. (It helps that I'm Scottish.)  And when I visit, especially if glass is there to inspire communication, I seem to manage very well with charades if I don't know the right words.... :usd:
