Small banded bottle with mushroom stopper - British?
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:47:22 PM »
I bought this small stoppered bottle, which was said to be British. But I have no idea who made it. It is about 6.5 inches tall and has brown ribbons/stripes and light green highlights on the mushroom-shaped stopper. I think it is rather good. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out who made it? I don't know where to start  :-[ . Thanks.

Hello Anton, the colours in the stopper remind me of Mdina the bottle itself I'm not so sure maybe another Maltese factory,Phoenician or Gozo, one of the many Mdina buffs will probably shoot me down on this :pb: ;D

I'll have a look through the auction site, but I'm sure I've seen a couple similar to this for sale and I thought they were Phoenician (but my memory isn't that good :)  )

Gozo Glass say it is not one of theirs. I am still awaiting a reply from Phoenecian Glass. In the meantime I'll be rummaging around Mdina resources. The bottle didn't strike me as Okra, but you never know.

Me neither, but you could ask Mike to rule Okra out http://www.abfabglass.co.uk/index.html, his email address is at the bottom of the page.

I wonder if Keith is right and it is Mdina. Looking on the Mdina web site their Earth design looks rather similar.

http://www.mdinaglass.net/graphics/photo_album/glasspieces/3422-earth_big.jpg

But a flask bottle with mushroom stopper does not appear on the Earth shape lists.

I asked Alum Bay Glass and it is not one of their designs.

Sorry, Mike, the bottle is no longer in my possession and I don't have a picture of the base.
