Can anyone provide any information about this lamp base
« on: November 23, 2010, 06:29:28 AM »
Hi,
We just brought this iridescent glass lamp base and would like to find out as much as possible about its age and origin.
We have been told it may be from Murano and anytime from 1910-1950?
It stands about 370 mm high.
The metal on the top is brass and the lampshade holder is 290mm in diameter (a bit less than 12 inches).
We have no idea what the shade that originally was on it looked like but would like to find out so we can put it back to the way it should be.
cheers,
Brad
heers,
Brad

I'd definitely agree that it is Murano. To my eye, though, the style is more post 1960, following the style of Radi and then Aldo Nason. Search for Radi "Yokohama" line and you'll see what I mean.  I couldn't suggest a maker. Interesting piece. I imagine that it was a very nice silk shade. I'd go with what looks good to you., but I wouldn't want anything that distracted attention from the body of the lamp.

Metal work would also tie in with the base being 60s. You could go to Venice and get a matching shade made, should be glass.

Radi was my first thought, too. It is a gorgeous lamp.

I was having a whizz through Murano glass lamps, and I think Frank is right, it would almost certainly have had a matching glass shade.
I realise this is all Millefiori glass, but I thought it was lovely to see a lamp with the matching shade still intact.......

Do look at the other pages either side of this listing.....magnificent Italian glass....if I see anything closer or more relevant, I'll be back in touch. :hi:

I found this lamp attributed to Galliano Ferro on Antique Helper: http://www.antiquehelper.com/item/297270. The shade looks like the glass in Brad's base.

Well spotted marriage Anita.... Brad needs that shade!!!! But his fitting suggests a completely different shape of shade.

That looks like a match to me, Anita. I still think that it would be a silk shade, as that seems to be what the fitting and the size of the lamp need.
