No doubt copying C17 Venetian - but lacks the quality and finish completely. However...........funnel bowl is handmade - it has both the vertical and horizontal striations/lines made when hot forming the shape and contains many very small bubbles and one or two fine seeds - the rim is not level. The hollow inverted baluster stem has the twist going the more common direction, with a quite passable merese under the bowl, although the collar at the bottom of the stem is poor and mishapen. The foot has plenty of circular deformed lines, and may have been produced by cutting - there is a 'blip/slight thickening' at one point - where shears may possibly have started/finished, and the pontil has simply been snapped. Wear is difficult to assess, as the piece sits on the very outer extremity of the foot (which is not folded). Height is approximately 5.1/8" - 130mm. So, it's a puzzle really - cost me Sterling £3 in a street market yesterday, and I'm quite ready to be told it was made last year in Egypt - but nonetheless it has some charm (despite the very large flea bite in the foot) - and it has a terrific 'ding', so I'm assuming a decent lead content. Might it be, perhaps, a C19 - early C20 frigger or seconds example? All thoughts welcome, and thanks for looking.
