Blue pressed/moulded glass sugar bowl?
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:11:32 AM »
This is another recent purchase that I made because I knew nothing about it and wanted to do some research. It stands 4 1/2 inches tall on a pedestal base and is 4 1/2 inches across. The underside of the base is decorated with a circle of stars which don't show up very well in photos. My research suggests to me that it is possibly early 20th century, English possibly Sowerby or Davidson. I would be very grateful for the thoughts of any members. Thanks John

I don't think it's Sowerby or Davidson on the basis of the design and the colour. I haven't seen the design before, though the shape is very common. I really don't know where I would look, but the colour might suggest late 19th century

Good thought, Rose. I'm thinking I've seen an Indiana punch bowl set in this colour glass. Definitely an avenue to pursue. It's not a colour that would me think of British pressed glass.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Thanks for all your suggestions , I have now trawled through countless catalogues etc for English, German and Indiana glass and got nowhere. The nearest colour I found was Indiana's Teal Blue, but could not trace pattern.
This was a new field for me and I am starting to think that there are just so many options and variables that this may be my last piece too!!!!!!!!!

???

Maybe this is called a Candy Dish (aka footed Compote) rather than a Sugar bowl -- since it is 4.5 inches tall ???  It just looks more like a Candy Dish, IMHO.  It is iridescent in color ?   Carnival Glass (poss) ??

Could you post a pic of the bottom where it has the circle of stars?  This is on the underside of the Bottom??  Try taking a pic in different light sources, and maybe try with/without flash.

 ;)
